75-ball or 60-ball? How to pick the right mode
- Games & Patterns
If you've played bingo, you've played one of two formats — but probably not both. Here's how they're different and which one to run.
75-ball: the American classic
This is the bingo most North Americans grew up with. A 5×5 board with the letters B-I-N-G-O across the top, numbers 1–75 distributed by column:
- B: 1–15
- I: 16–30
- N: 31–45 (with a free space in the middle)
- G: 46–60
- O: 61–75
Why people love it: lots of pattern variety. Single line, four corners, full house, X, T, postage stamp, and dozens of other shapes are all possible on a 5×5 grid. If you're running multiple games and want each one to feel different, 75-ball gives you the most range — our pattern guide walks through the full lineup.
60-ball: the speed format
60-ball uses a smaller pool of numbers (1–60) and a smaller board. Games end faster. Patterns are simpler. There's less downtime between calls.
Why people love it: it's quick. If you're running bingo as part of a longer event — a fundraiser dinner, a school carnival, a bar trivia night — 60-ball keeps the energy up without taking 25 minutes per game.
Which should you pick?
It depends on your audience and your time.
- Pick 75-ball if your players are bingo regulars, you have time for full-house games, and you want pattern variety across the night.
- Pick 60-ball if your players are casual, your event has other things going on, or you want to fit more games into the same hour.
For most bingo halls and senior centers, 75-ball is the move. For school events, fundraisers, and family game nights, 60-ball usually wins.
One thing to plan around: ball mode is set when you create a session, not something you flip mid-game. If you want to run a 75-ball opener and a 60-ball closer, that's two sessions, not one.
If you're not sure, start with 75-ball. It's what most people expect, and the games feel right. You can always start a new session in the faster format next time.
Both modes are available on Dauber HQ's free plan and up — Plus adds unlimited viewers, multiple simultaneous sessions, and the rest of the pattern and program tools. The full breakdown lives on the features page.
